Online Therapy

We never seem to have enough time.

Work is jam-packed!

Or you’re shuttling kids off to practices or games…

Or you’re doing any one of a million things at night before you finally fall into bed.

With such a busy life, the thought of driving ALL the way to a therapy session and ALL the way back is daunting.

Get the help. Enjoy the convenience…

I get it: You’re busy, time is tight, and sometimes you just want to be comfortable in your own home.

Well… good news! You CAN have it all!

As long as you are in Oregon, I can offer you online therapy services through a HIPAA-compliant video platform (this just means it’s totally secure and confidential).

With online therapy, we can meet from the comfort of your home, car, or office – wherever your private place is. And you won’t have to worry about traffic, parking, or taking time off of work to fit in a session.

It’s also a great option if you have health concerns such that staying in your home is best for your safety.

Plus, insurance companies are now covering online therapy sessions at a rate never seen before.

But is it as effective as in-person therapy?

Research says “yes.” It’s worth knowing that online therapy isn’t anything new. It actually started in the 1960s. What is new is that Medicare, Medicaid, private insurance companies, and state and federal regulatory agencies have relaxed their rules on online therapy and increased reimbursement to providers. Online therapy has been a source of treatment for many rural populations, veterans, and legal work (e.g., forensic evaluations).

Psychologists have studied various populations to see whether online therapy works, who it works best for, and how to provide treatment most effectively – with promising results. The U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, the leading provider of PTSD and trauma treatments, compared online therapy to in-person treatments and found that the two methods are equally effective in most cases. (Turgoose, D., et al., Journal of Telemedicine and Telecare, Vol. 24, No. 9, 2018).

Research studies have also found online therapy is effective for treating depression, anxiety, and adjustment disorders (Varker, T., et al., Psychological Services, Vol. 16, No. 4, 2019), and also substance use, eating disorders, and other problems in children and adolescents (Slone, N.C., et al., Psychological Services, Vol. 9, No. 3, 2012).

The other benefit discovered from online therapy is that retention rates are higher. The convenience, flexibility, and ease of access to therapy mean that people come longer and more often. When people come longer, they get more benefits and feel better!

Here are just a few things we can do with online therapy…

Identifying and getting support and tools for working through depression and anxiety…

Figuring out what’s making you so angry…

Providing a safe and comfortable space to talk about the most difficult things…

Making time for you and your needs in a hectic life….

Tracking your progress toward your life goals…

And many more….

It’s really this easy!

Important things to consider are that you are in a quiet, comfortable place. Your environment should be somewhere you feel comfortable talking about your concerns, struggles, and emotions.

Online therapy also requires a reliable Internet link or data connection (at least 1 Mbps).

You’ll need a device with video-call capabilities. This could be a laptop, iPad, or smartphone as long as it has a camera and video capacity. Whatever you use, you’ll need to keep the computer or phone still to ensure you have the best therapy experience possible. I use a HIPAA-compliant (that just means it’s confidential) program called Doxy.me. I’ll send you an email with a secure link, which you’ll click to join me. That’s it!

What’s not to love?

For every session we schedule together, you’ll have the option of either meeting in person or through online therapy.
