{sigh} It’s another one of those days.
You get the things done, going through the motions, and even meeting the goals.
But inside, you’ve lost your motivation and enthusiasm.
While you are grateful for the things you thought most important (family, a solid job, security), you can’t shake the empty feeling that something’s missing. Where are the spark and joy?
You don’t want to admit it, but you can be irritable, even angry, and snapping at those you love. This makes you feel worse about yourself, and you wonder why they put up with you… even why they love you when it’s so hard to find anything to love about yourself. It’s exhausting.
Even though your friends ask you to go out and you want to spend time with them, you find yourself isolating at home. Now that you think about it, it’s been a while since they last called.
Something has shifted. The things you used to enjoy that would fill your cup – they just don’t anymore. And when you try them, you just feel frustrated and discouraged.
Your life is like a funnel…
When you’re young and just trying to figure out and understand the world, you’re at the top of the funnel. Your understanding of yourself is a mile wide and an inch deep.
As you move through life and have different experiences, the world teaches you things about yourself. You learn more and more. Are you an introvert or an extrovert? Do you like jobs where you do the same thing repeatedly, perfecting it each time? Or do you like change, variety, and being stimulated by new things?
As you move through the world, people also reflect and teach you things about yourself. Maybe you had a partner who told you that you get “thin-lipped” when you’re really angry (and it turns out they were right!). Maybe your supervisor once got so frustrated with you that she called you “arrogant” (which, as it turns out, you sometimes are).
Down the funnel you go… learning more about yourself – who you are… and what you like and don’t like.
The thing is… there are also parts of yourself that you don’t want to know about. Parts of yourself that you want to hide or avoid.
This is natural (we all do it), yet it prevents us from growing, making our lives and relationships difficult. These parts can make us feel bad, guilty, or ashamed of ourselves. They also frustrate your partners, keep you from getting the promotions you want, and make you feel aimless and dissatisfied with your life.
Therapy is how you develop a deep awareness of yourself.
And it all takes place in a comfortable, compassionate, nonjudgmental environment.
This time is all about YOU. It’s a time to be completely supported as you go deeper and deeper “into the funnel.”
I can help you carefully and comfortably look at and deal with what is causing you pain, frustration, and listlessness in your life. We’ll delve into those experiences that have left you with wounds and scars.
It’s time to stop hiding. It’s time to be authentically you.
I can help you explore and identify what is causing those uncomfortable emotions by using Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). What we’ve learned is that it’s not events that bother us. It’s the way we interpret the events – the meaning that we give to them, and these interpretations are the catalyst to our feelings. We’ll explore your thoughts and how they affect the way that you feel.
We’ll examine your thoughts, emotions, body sensations, and behaviors in specific situations. We’ll also look at your best efforts to cope with your feelings and the unintended consequences that are getting in the way of feeling better.
Fun fact – 60% of our feelings are made up of body sensations. Whoa! Our bodies would have a lot to say if only we were willing or comfortable enough to listen. Through mindfulness techniques, we can figure out what your body is trying to tell you. These techniques will also allow you to calm the body, which will calm your mind.
The good news is, the only expectation is that you come as you are. That you’re open and willing to talk about what’s troubling you and what you’d like to see change in your mind, body, and life. Together, we’ll create a roadmap to create those changes. All that’s necessary is that you call today so that we can get the process started.
Invest in yourself… because you’re worth it!
It’s time to embrace all parts of yourself…
It’s time to feel liberated and joyful about the person you are…
